      How to use this tool

      1. Choose color photos

Select still JPG, PNG or WebP images. A batch can use the same settings.

      2. Set format and dimensions

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP. Leave the longest edge at 0 to keep the original dimensions, or enter a smaller size.

      3. Review the tones and save

Check the actual grayscale results, then save individual images or download the batch as a ZIP.

The conversion accounts for the brightness contribution of red, green and blue. It produces shades of gray, not a two-color threshold image, and does not restore color to old photos.

      Common questions

Does black and white mean only two colors?+

No. The result is a grayscale image with a range of light and dark shades. A two-color threshold conversion is not included.

      Can I keep a transparent background?+

The grayscale step preserves existing transparency. Save as PNG or WebP to keep it; JPG does not support transparency.

Will grayscale always make the file smaller?+

No. File size depends on the original, output format and quality. Check the measured result and use the compression tool if you need to reduce it further.
